  • ALMT-Fan Fridays: VisualCrack interview with Amber Moelter

    January 15th, 2010

On ALMT-Fan Fridays I write about fandom.

John Phillips, a “self confessed movie fanatic”, recently interviewed me on a variety of subjects from Catwoman:Resolution, Dirty Step Upstage, Girl In The Red Dress, and the future of ALM Talkies on his site VisualCrack. VisualCrack is an offshoot of site Absolutely Random and focusses primarily on genre movies (horror, sci-fi, cult).

Here’s a sample of the interview:

VC: Amber, you describe ALM Talkies as a boutique production company, tell us a little bit about what that means?
AM: It means our projects are very specialized, and geared to expressing my own vision. After founding the company it took me more than three years to pin down just what that vision was, but I now believe that ALM Talkies can be unique: innovative and edgy, with an emphasis on artistry.

VC: ALM Talkies seems to have managed to bring together some strong team members, I’m sure our readers will be familiar with Deborah Kampmeier and Colin Blakeston, how did you manage to bring all these highly experienced people together?
AM: I’ve always focused on putting together a strong team. Positivity, creativity, support and passion from the people I work with matter a lot to me. Deborah is my mentor through New York Women In Film and Television, and hearing her talk about the difficulties she went through with her film Hounddog reassured me that I wasn’t the only one to face challenges. As for Colin, he’s a long-time friend from my days as an actress in London. I played Catwoman in two fan-films he directed – although only one saw the light of day – and he recently helped me with the titles and color of my film Dirty Step Upstage. He’s a great collaborator and incredibly supportive friend.

Chicago, IL — December 21, 2009 / ( http://www.myprgenie.com ) — “Dirty Step Upstage”, the new independent film from ALM Talkies, has collected another award.

Nova Reid, who plays the lead role in the dark reality-thriller, was named Best Actress by the Maverick Movie Awards in its sixth annual end-of-year selection.

“Dirty Step Upstage” was nominated in no less than ten categories by the Maverick Movie Awards committee, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay, as well as the full quartet of Lead and Supporting Actor and Actress.

The film is the directorial debut of Amber Moelter, who also wrote and appears in the film. Inspired by real events, it is a gritty drama about the price an aspiring young singer is prepared to pay for fame.

My team has worked very hard on this film for the last few years, and to have its many facets recognized, from the soundtrack to the sound editing, means so much to all of us,” said Moelter. “It makes the very challenging job of independent film production feel a little easier.”

The momentum behind “Dirty Step Upstage” has been growing steadily throughout 2009. In October it received its world premiere at the Chashama Film Festival in New York City, where it was chosen as the opening night film. Amber Moelter won Chashama’s Best Actress award at the festival.

The Maverick Movie Awards was founded by moviemakers who have been through the highs and lows of the international film festival circuit. It champions independent cinema created outside of the Hollywood system, and aims to celebrate great cinema above glitz and glamor. Visitwww.maverickmovieawards.com for more information.

  • PRESS RELEASE: Amber Moelter wins Best Actress prize at Chashama Film Festival

    October 28th, 2009

Amber Moelter was awarded the Best Actress prize at the 2009 Chashama Film Festival (www.chafilmfest.com) for her work in the ALM Talkies production “Dirty Step Upstage.”

Recipients of the festival’s Victor Awards were selected by a jury made up of five film industry professionals, and the winners were announced at an awards ceremony held in New York, NY, on October 25th 2009.

“It’s fantastic to have been recognized by the Chashama Film Festival,” said Moelter. “My journey here has involved many different people and some crazy events. Without those events, both good and bad, it would have been impossible for me to perform as Girl In The Red Dress in this film.”

The soundtrack to “Dirty Step Upstage” features two songs performed by Girl In The Red Dress, who also performed in person as part of the festival’s Opening Night event.

“Disguise”, an EP of three songs by Girl In The Red Dress, has just been released and is available through iTunes, Soundclick and other suppliers.

Inspired by real events, “Dirty Step Upstage” is a reality thriller about the price an aspiring young singer is prepared to pay for fame. As well as appearing in the film, Moelter also wrote and directed it.

Festival director Rick Kariolic said he was proud to have shown “Dirty Step Upstage” at the festival. “Amber Moelter put on an exceptional display of all-around talent, as singer, song writer and film maker,” he said. “It drew me in.”
